The pig started a loud yelling. At once，all theold hogs turned. They came at Old Yeller with theirhair on end and their teeth popping. Yeller held onto his pig until I thought for a second they hadhim. Then he let go and started running towardsme，but running slowly. Slowly enough to keep theold hogs chasing him and thinking every secondthat they were going to catch him the next.
那只猪大声嚎叫起来，所有的猪都立刻把头转了过去。它们猪毛倒竖，龇牙咧嘴地朝阿黄扑来。阿黄咬住了那头猪不放，一时间我还以为这群猪已经把阿黄抓住了。不一会儿，它放掉了那头猪，向我跑来，但是跑得慢吞吞的，慢得足以使那群猪一直以为马上就可以抓住它而在它的后面追赶着。
When they saw at last that they couldn’t，theold hogs stopped and got into a tight circle. All thelittle pigs were inside，and all the shining tuskswere facing outwards.
当 它们终于明白没法捉住它时，老猪们就停止追赶而紧紧地围成一个圈。它们把所有的小猪都围在里面，把那闪闪发光的獠牙一齐对准外面。
Old Yeller and I knew better than to try tobreak into that circle of tusks. Anyway，we didn’thave to. All we had to do was move the hogs alongto where we wanted them，and Old Yeller alreadyknew how to do this.
我和阿黄不会糊涂到想去突破这一道獠牙关的。而且，我们也不必这样做。我们要做的只是把猪赶到我们要它们去的地方。阿黄已经知道该怎么办了。
Back he went，right up to their faces，andrushed at them again and again with his yelling

barks until they couldn’t stand it.One of the hogsbroke away angrily，and at once all the others madefor him too.

They were right up with Old Yeller again. Theyalmost had him. Another few inches and one of themwould put a four - inch tusk into his soft belly.

But the thing was，Old Yeller would never letthem get those last few inches closer. They cut athim from behind and from both sides，but he wasnever quite there. He was always a little bit out ofreach，and yet so close that they couldn”t helpthinking the next try was sure to get him.

I called to Old Yeller.“Bring”em on，Ye lle r，”Isaid. Then I turned and headed for a big oak treethat stood in a clear patch of ground. It had a bigbranch sticking out to one side. It was low，and yethigh enough above the ground to be out of reach ofthe highest cutting hog.

The screaming of the pig and the smell of hisblood made the hogs go nearly wild with anger.
They kept circling the tree and standing up itstrunk，trying to get at me.

I tried not to think what would happen if I fellout of that tree.

I finished the first pig and dropped it to theground. Then，one after the other，I roped andmarked all the others. In less than an hourthe jobwas done，and the only trouble then was getting thehogs to leave the tree. After all the trouble of holdingthe dogs under the tree，Old Yeller had a hardtime believing that now I wanted them out of theway. And even after I got him to leave，the hogswere so mad and upset that I had to wait there inthe tree for nearly an hour before they went off intothe bushes and it was safe for me to come down.
我给第一头猪打好印记，把它扔到地上。然后，我又把其它的一些猪一头接一头地用绳子套住，并打上印记。这事不到一个小时就办完了。这时，唯一的问题是要把这些猪从树旁引开。经过了这么一番周折才把这些猪弄到树下来，阿黄难以相信我现在却要把它们赶走。
在我把阿黄打发走后，猪群竟还是如此地狂暴不安，使我不得不在树上呆了将近一个小时，等它们离开那儿回到灌木丛里去后，我才安全地爬下树来。
