英文导读

The University of Padua (Italian Università degli Studi di Padova, UNIPD) is a premier Italian university located in the city of Padua, Italy. The University of Padua was founded in 1222 as a school of law and was one of the most prominent universities in early modern Europe. The first subjects to be taught were law and theology. The curriculum expanded rapidly, and by 1399 the institution had been divided in two: a Universitas Iuristarum for civil law and Canon law, and a Universitas Artistarum which taught astronomy, dialectics, philosophy, grammar, medicine, and rhetoric. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Padua became a workshop of ideas and the home to figures who changed the cultural and scientific history of humanity. In 1995 Padua adopted a new Statute that gave it greater independence. Today, the University of Padua is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious seats of learning. Research into pharmaceuticals is also covered with Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies (Pharmacy), as is research into hi-tech products with a course in Materials Science (Sciences). Great emphasis is also placed on Humanities, such as History and Conservation of Artistic and Cultural Heritage (Arts and Philosophy), and on teacher training with a course in Primary Education (Education). The University’s traditional courses for professionals in Law, Economics, and Business Management are run alongside courses that analyze complex social systems such as Sociological Sciences (Political Sciences) and Statistics, Population and Society (Statistical Sciences). As the publications of innumerable conferences and congresses show, the modern-day University of Padua plays an important role in scholarly and scientific research at both a European and world level.
