Johann Kepler（开普勒，1571-1630），德国天文学家，发现行星运动三大定律，探讨大气折射问题，为牛顿发现万有引力定律和近代光学奠定了基础。

本文作者Mortimer Jerome Adler（阿德勒，1902-2001），是美国哲学家和教育家，《大英百科全书》（Encyclopedia Britannica）董事会主席。他在所著《如何读书》（How to Read a Book， 1940）中谈到判断名著的标准时，举了开普勒的例子。
