Seeing the sage, all think they see a squire, Companion, lady-love, or absent friend;

Whatever is each several wight's desire:

Since to our scope our wishes never tend.

Hence searching every where, themselves they tire With labour sore, and frustrate of their end;

And cannot, (so Desire and Hope deceive), Without the missing good, that palace leave.
