第119章 THE LADY-BIRD AND THE ANT

1.The lady-bird sat in the rose‘s heart,And smiled with pride and scorn ,As she saw a plainly-dressed ant go by With a heavy grain of corn.

2.Then she laughed so loud that the ant looked up,And,seeing her haughty face,Took no more notice,but travelled on At the same industrious pace.

And down the rose with the lady-bird went,And scattered its leaves around.

3.Then the houseless lady was much amazed,For she knew not where to go,And hoarseNovember‘s early blastHad brought with it rain and snow;

Her wings were chilled and her feet were cold,And she wished for the ant’s warm cell,-And what she did in the wintry stormI am sure I cannot tell.

4.Lady-bird!lady-bird!fly away home-The field-mouse has gone to her nest,The daisies have shut up their sweet sleepy eyes,And the bees and the birds are at rest.

5.Lady-bird!lady-bird!fly away home-The glow-worm is lighting her lamp;The dew‘s falling fast,and your fine speckledWill be wet with the close-dinging damp.

6.Lady-bird!lady-bird!fly away home-The fairy bells tinkle afar;wingsMake haste,or they’ll catch you,and harness you fast With a cobwebto Oberon‘s car .
