Wageningen University and Research Centre (also known as Wageningen UR or WUR) is a Dutch public university in Wageningen， The Netherlands. It consists of Wageningen University and the former agricultural research institutes of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture. Wageningen UR trains specialists in life sciences and focuses its research on scientific， social and commercial problems in the field of life sciences and natural resources. In 1876 the state takes over the local council"s Agricultural College in Wageningen： the start of National Agricultural Education in The Netherlands. Wageningen education has been developed to a higher level and the institution was called the National Higher College of Agriculture， Horticulture and Forestry in 1904. Wageningen"s status as an institute of higher education is legally ratified， and it becomes the National Agricultural College on 9 March 1918. In accordance with amendmenst to the Academic Education Act， the Agricultural College was called the Agricultural University in 1986. The formation of Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR) begins； the Agricultural university merges with the DLO Research Institutes and the Institutes for Applied Research in 1997.
