The University of Kiel (German： Christian-Albrechts-Universit.t zu Kiel， CAU) is a university in the city of Kiel， Germany. It was founded in 1665 as the Academia Holsatorum Chiloniensis by Christian Albert， Duke of Holstein-Gottorp. The first botanical garden in Germany was opened by the university. The University of Kiel is the largest， oldest， and most prestigious in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.Building on the strength of proven excellence in interdisciplinary research， the university has formed four dynamic research foci of international relevance at Kiel University： Marine and Geosciences； Life Sciences；Nano and Surface Science； and Societal， Environmental， Cultural Change. Each focus integrates research across faculty boundaries and is continuously inspired through strong partnerships with non-university research institutions in Kiel， Schleswig-Holstein and the rest of Germany.
System： The university is organized into eight faculties including： Faculty of Theology； Faculty of Law； Faculty of Business， Economics and Social Sciences； Faculty of Medicine； Faculty of Arts and Humanities； Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences； Faculty of Agricultural Science and Nutrition； Faculty of Engineering ( the youngest ).
City show： Kiel is the capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein. The city is known for a variety of international sailing events， including the annual Kiel Week， which is the biggest sailing event in the world. The oldest building in the city is the 13th century St. Nicholas" Church. Kiel also features a number of museums， including zoological， geological， historical， fine art， industrial， and military museums. Notable is the City and Maritime Museum.
