The University of Freiburg (German： Albert-Ludwigs-Universit.t Freiburg， colloquially Uni Freiburg)， sometimes referred to with its full title， the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg， is a public research university located in Freiburg im Breisgau， Baden-Württemberg， Germany.The university was founded in 1457 by the Habsburg dynasty as the second university in Austrian-Habsburg territory after the University of Vienna. While it suffered many challenges in its long history， having to relocate on several occasions due to wars and changing political as well as religious situations， it finally settled permanently in the historic and beautiful city of Freiburg. Many of the buildings of the University of Freiburg are centrally located in the old town， others only minutes away. Nestled between the Rhine valley and the Black Forest， the “Green City” Freiburg is known for cycling in the summer， snowboarding in the winter， and its close proximity to Switzerland and France. Today， Freiburg is the fifth-oldest university in Germany， with a long tradition of teaching the humanities， social sciences and natural sciences.
