King"s College London (informally King"s or KCL) is a prestigious public research university located in London， United Kingdom， and a constituent college of the federal University of London. King"s College， so named to indicate the patronage of King George IV and the Duke of Wellington， was founded in 1829 in response to the theological controversy surrounding the founding of “London University” (which later became University College London) in 1827. King"s was one of the first of a series of institutions which came about in the early nineteenth century as a result of the Industrial Revolution and great social changes in England following the Napoleonic Wars. While remaining part of London University， King’s College has enjoyed financial and academic autonomy since 1994 and started to award its own degrees since 2008. King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU) provides quality recreational， social and welfare services for all students. KCLSU runs an exhaustive programme of events at its top quality venues and supports numerous student-led clubs and societies. The college is a founding member of the Russell Group； constitutes the largest centre for the education of healthcare professionals in Europe and houses six Medical Research Council Centres.
System： King’s is organised into nine Schools of Study， spread across four Thames-side campuses（Strand campus， Guy"s campus， Waterloo campus， St. Thomas’ campus）in central London and another in Denmark Hill in south London. The nine constituent Schools of Study： Arts & Humanities， Biomedical Sciences， Dental Institute， Institute of Psychiatry， Law ， Medicine， Natural & Mathematical Sciences， Nursing & Midwifery， Social Science & Public Policy. Note： King’s College London Dental Institute is the largest dental school in Europe. Several subjects taught at King’s including Law， History， European Studies， War Studies， Classics， English， French， Spanish， Portuguese， Geography， German， Music， Dentistry， Medicine， Nursing， Food Science， Philosophy and Theology are among the top 10 in the country.
Maughan Library： The main Maughan Library used to be the Public Record Office and is now the largest new university library in Britain since the Second World War. It"s got the original Victorian zinc ceilings. It is home to the books and journals of the School"s of Humanities， Law， Physical Sciences & Engineering， and Social Science & Public Policy. It also houses the special collections and rare books.
