Georgetown University is a private research university in Washington， D.C. Georgetown University has the distinction of being the oldest Catholic and Jesuit University in the United States. The university was founded in 1789 by John Carroll， a Jesuit priest. The university is divided into four undergraduate schools， along with three graduate and professional schools， medical residencies and certificate programs. Georgetown"s main campus， located in Washington"s Georgetown neighborhood， is noted for Healy Hall， a National Historic Landmark in the Romanesque revival style. Today， Georgetown has grown to be a major international research university with eight schools， an affiliated hospital and many highly ranked academic programs. Georgetown continues to move forward as one of the world"s leading universities， building upon its distinctive history， unique values and commitment to justice and the common good. Although Georgetown University is known for rigorous academics， students and faculty relax by supporting their NCAA-ranked men"s basketball team， the Hoyas.

System： Georgetown has four undergraduate schools and three graduate and professional schools. The school also offers professional development and certificate programs. Georgetown provides students with opportunities for overseas study and also hosts international students and scholars. Areas of study at Georgetown include arts， humanities， international affairs， business， liberal arts， public policy， health， human science， history， law， medicine， languages， politics， theology and performing arts. The school continues to maintain a strong Catholic and Jesuit identity， and requires all of its students to take two classes in philosophy and theology.
Faculty： The current faculty includes scholars such as the former President of the American Philological Association James J. O"Donnell， theologian John Haught， and preeminent hip-hop scholar Michael Eric Dyson. Many former politicians choose to teach at Georgetown， including former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel and former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright， National Security Advisor Anthony Lake， and CIA director George Tenet. It also attracts numerous former ambassadors and heads of state， such as Saudi Ambassador Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud， Prime Minister of Spain José María Aznar.
